Laptop
I just got my new laptop in. I purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad T400. Border's offered a discount through their corporate account plus a coupon for 15% off. The total came to a little over $800 (ouch!) but all other laptops from companies like Dell and HP that had similar build quality were similarly expensive or had inferior hardware. So, I just went with a trusted brand.
The specs are as follows:
- Intel P8600 Processor
- 4GB DDR3 memory
- 14.1" LED monitor
- 250 GB HDD
- 6 cell battery
- Intel GMA 4500MHD Graphics
- Windows 7 professional 64-bit
The rest of the specs are largely superfluous. I did get the finger print reader which, already, feels like an excellent investment. It was pretty darn inexpensive and is so easy to use. I love being able to log into my computer by swiping the finger print pad rather than typing in a password. I'm going to have to learn how to use the finger print reader in Windows to open programs.
In other news, Installing OSX on my IBM T40 was a colossal failure. It totally didn't work well at all. I looked around at cheap Macs. Macbooks and Intel Mac Minis are horribly expensive used. G5 computers that can run OSX 10.5 can be had for little money, but Apple artificially prevents users from installing the iPhone development environment on their computer. The software is compatible (evidenced by the fact that you can install it through a workaround), but Apple just hides it from you, unless you have an Intel Mac. Utter bullshit, in my mind.
In development news, I'm starting the modeling process for objectifying my blog. This means that I'm sitting around writing use cases, bullet points, actors, etc. I'm not coding anything...yet. I'd love to start my legal software, but I'm not going to worry about getting on that until I have some network programming under my belt.
